Get Involved

Looking for ways to connect, meet people, read good books, do good in the community? We offer a host of ways to get involved.
Here are just a few examples:

Groups
Our Sisterhood collects food to donate to CCAP, Congregational Community Action Project.
For Beth El women, there’s a monthly Ladies Night Out at area restaurants. Come schmooze, nosh, connect.
Our Book Club meets every other month, choosing a mix of fiction and non-fiction titles. Join us for interesting discussion and, of course, a nosh.
The Men’s Group meets to chat . . . and nosh.

During a Sisterhood Party held during Hanukkah, we made edible dreidels!

Social Action
Every year over the High Holidays, we brings bags and bags full of nonperishable food, load them into Mike’s truck, and he donates the food on our behalf to the ???
Some years, we have taken our turn, along with other area religious groups, helping with the WATTS (Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter) program, providing meals and goodie bags to homeless men over Christmas.

Other years, because we live in the heart of apple country, we have gone apple gleaning, collecting apples that have fallen on the ground to donate to food shelters.

Donate
To honor life cycle events or commemorate loved ones, we offer a number of ways to contribute to Beth El. Here are some of the available funds:
General Fund. This unglamorous sounding fund does very important things — like keep the lights on, stock our kitchen with supplies, and buy ??
Building Fund. Even though we have completed Phase I of the renovation, we are eager to bring newness to other parts of the building, as well, including our sanctuary.
Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund. People often contribute to this fund as a way to say a special thank you to the Rabbi, who uses the proceeds to help struggling congregants, important community projects, or ???.
Yahrzeit Memorial Plaques. Each plaque you buy in memory of a deceased love one support the General Fund. It is placed in a position of honor on the wall beside the bimah as you enter the sanctuary.

We sincerely appreciate every contribution, which we list (by donor, not by amount) in the monthly temple bulletin. Stock donations are also welcome.
To contribute, send a check to Beth El Congregation, 520 Fairmont Avenue, Winchester, VA 22602 ATTN: Treasurer.
If no particular designation is made, your generous gift will go into the General Fund.
